Revisionist History

Started in 2016, Revisionist History has just released it’s 3rd season on Panoply Media. Each season contains 10 episodes, that are released weekly, every one is about 30-45 minutes long. Every episode begins with an inquiry about a person, event, or idea and then proceeds to question the prescribed wisdom about the subject. Each season has a big picture theme, the episodes of that season will all revolve around that same theme. The podcast is hosted by Canadian author and essayist Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell combines off-air research with on-site interviews to question the conventional knowledge of any subject. Revisionist History goes back to reinterpret something from the past, something overlooked, something misunderstood. Shortly after the podcasts launch it hit the #1 spot on the iTunes chart for most downloaded podcasts.

Because sometimes the past deserves a second chance.”- Malcolm Gladwell

Things I Like About The Podcast:

  • The production quality of the show is excellent

  • The podcast does a good job and answering the big picture question by narrowing down on specific examples

  • Malcolm Gladwell is very well spoken and able to simplify complex ideas, he communicates very effectively

  • Is not your typical history podcast

  • Malcolm isn’t afraid to hold controversial view points and to discuss and debate those views with others

  • Challenges the accepted view points of modern history

Things That Aren’t So Great About The Podcast:

  • There are commercial breaks in the middle of some of the episodes

  • It is released, like a TV show, by seasons

  • Some of the episodes are extremely anti-climactic and tend to build up to something underwhelming

  • Deals with more modern day history over ancient history

  • If you’re not paying close attention it is easy to get lost and miss the point

  • I wish the episodes were longer

  • Some of the stories or anecdotes seem off theme and out of place for the episode
